Les fairways, les départs et les tours de greens sont majoritairement implantés avec du gazon style green (agrostis stolonifère) et l'entretien est identique sur les 3 zones.
La tonte est effectuée 3 fois par semaine pendant la saison, le gazon est tondu à 9 mm et ramassé avec des bacs de collecte.
L'aération a lieu deux fois par an (mars et novembre) en dehors des périodes de championnat. Ces opérations indispensables sont précédées d'un sablage.
Aucun insecticide n'est utilisé sur ces zones. Les désherbants sont ponctuels, deux fois par an, plante par plante. Fongicide et ralentisseur de croissance ne sont utilisés qu'en cas d'absolue nécessité. Des répulsifs (essence de moutarde) sont utilisés pour freiner l'évolution des vers de terre.
Pour améliorer la portance de la balle et la lutte naturelle contre les maladies, le gazon est brossé pour aérer la surface et relever les brins.
Les divots sont régulièrement effectués en fonction des disponibilités du personnel.
Les espèces de graminées implantées sur nos fairways nécessitent un entretien intensif et surtout une tonte rase. Un entretien classique comme d'autres golfs de la région engendrerait à terme un tapis végétal incontrôlable, malade et mou avec à échéance un mécontentement des joueurs et une reconstruction majeure des fairways.
The Fairways, the tees, and the green surrounds are comprised almost entirely of bentgrass (Agrostis Stolonifera), which is what makes up a large portion of the turfgrass on our greens. The maintenance practices are basically the same for all three areas, with the exception of the larger fairway mowers needed to maintain the larger fairways. All of these areas are cut during the high season 3 times per week. Their height of cut is at 9mm and the grass is collected for all of these areas.
These areas are aerified twice a year, once early in the springtime, before the grass is starting to grow and once late fall after the grass has finished growing. This work is done at this time so that when the competition season begins, the fairways are already at their peak. This work is crucial to the fairways for many reasons. First, through the continuation of this work we are, in essence, changing the soil profile. It is and has helped to create an excellent zone for the roots of the turf to thrive and strengthen thereby reducing the risk of disease on the playing surface. Secondly, it deters worm castings that can hinder the enjoyment and playability of the fairways. You may notice, when playing several other courses in the region, after your round, your shoes, your pull carts and your pants are all dirty, this is from the worm castings on the fairway surface. Lastly, it helps tremendously with the drainage, which in turn, creates a firmer playing surface.
In an effort to minimize the products we are putting on the the golf course, we use hand held sprayers and treat the fairways twice per year. You may see us out on the course, with long blue sticks. These are used to directly treat the weeds and not the surrounding turf.
